FAQS

HOW MUCH DO THERAPY SESSIONS COST?

Please refer to the 'fees' page of this website.

WHAT AGE IS SUITABLE FOR THERAPY?

Play based therapy is typically suitable for children aged between 3 and 12 years of age, but can accommodate for developmental differences.

HOW LONG DOES EACH SESSION TAKE?

The initial parent/caregiver intake appointment is booked and billed for an hour to an hour and a half.
Each child session takes 30 to 45 minutes and is billed for an additional 15 minutes to accommodate notes and administration.
Parent/caregiver update sessions are held every 5 - 6 weeks and generally take 30 minutes. These appointments are also billed with an additional 15 minutes (45 minutes total) to accommodate notes and administration.

HOW MANY SESSIONS WILL MY CHILD NEED?

As each child is unique it is difficult to say how many sessions they may need. This can vary depending on their needs and goals. Some children may only need as little as 12 sessions, whereas some children may need up to 25 sessions or engage in longer term therapy.

CAN YOU LIAISE WITH MY CHILD'S OTHER THERAPISTS OR SCHOOL?

Yes! We are passionate about strong multi-disciplinary teams and their ability to facilitate change when working together. We are happy to work with your child's Speech Pathologist, Occupational Therapist, Teachers, or any other individual or organisation to support your child. Any meetings, conferences or reports will be billed accordingly.

WHAT HAPPENS IF I NEED TO CANCEL AN APPOINTMENT?

If you are unable to attend your appointment please let your practitioner know as soon as possible. As we run appointments to a schedule, any cancellations made within 24 hours of your scheduled appointment will be charged at the full session fee. We are happy to use this non-contact time for resource development (eg. creating visuals).
If session(s) are missed due to an illness, COVID-19 or emergency, an alternative arrangement can be agreed.

WHO ATTENDS SESSIONS?

The initial parent/caregiver intake appointment is between the parent/caregiver and the practitioner only. This allows us to discuss your child in detail, without them present.
Weekly child therapy sessions are ideally between the practitioner and the child, parents will typically wait in the waiting room. This allows the child to express themselves freely and establishes their time in the playroom as their own safe and special time. If coming into the playroom is distressing for your child, we will work with them in their own time to make the transition as comfortable as possible. We will never force a child to come into or stay in the playroom.
Although sessions are between the child and practitioner, parent/caregiver update sessions are scheduled regularly to keep you updated on your child’s progress and ensure you are engaged in the therapeutic process.
